| Be Rational with Machine Safety |
|
With regard to safety, do you think rationally, or do you rationalize?
At the 2010 Safety Automation Forum, Jeff Russell of the American Beverages Division of PepsiCo Americas spoke on global safety compliance via international standards. Because his company's machines could be built for one region and be relocated to another it is important that design standards are the same. His company is moving from EN 954-1 to EN ISO 13849-1 performance-level-based evaluation of its machine builders' designs.

| New Robotics Technology Park Educates and Trains in Emerging Robotics Technologies |
|
Omron STI has partnered with The Alabama Robotics Technology Park (RTP), and is serving as the primary robotics safety provider for the project. The RTP is a three-phase project that will consist of individual training facilities targeted to a specific industry need, which will provide college level courses on every aspect of robotics training, including robotics safety.
Completed in September 2010, Phase I of the project is the 52,000 square foot Robotic Maintenance Training Center, which houses the industry training program where technicians are trained to work on robotic machinery. For Phase I, Omron STI delivered the complete safety solution for three of RTP's robotic weld cells, eight single-robot work cells, and a robotic assembly line which included seven robots, a conveyor system, and an automatic guided vehicle (AGV).
