Estimating the financial costs in advance of an injury is difficult. Fortunately, OSHA's interactive $afety Pays website offers assistance.
Using insurance company claims data, in four simple steps the tool calculates the estimated direct and indirect costs of an injury. And if you enter your profit margin information, $afety Pays will also project the additional sales required to recover the costs of the injury. Learn more.

| Safety Training Shouldn't have a Beginning and an End |

Manufacturing plants typically do a good job of educating new workers about safety procedures. But that initial training isn't enough to ensure employees will take the safety message to heart and work safely every day, and it isn't enough to satisfy OSHA regulations. A continuing safety program is necessary to meet both goals (Feingold, Jean. "The Importance of Continued Training," Fabricating & Metalworking, November/December 2007).
