| OSHA's Top 10 Most Cited Violations of 2009 |
|
The December 2009 issue of Safety+Health magazine featured its annual review of OSHA's Top 10 most cited violations of 2009.
The list of most cited violations focuses on "serious" infractions, namely those in which "there is substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result, and the employer knew or should have known of the hazard." Machine guarding was 9th on this year's list, with more than 2200 total violations cited.

| Low Speed Safety Monitoring Unit Ensures Safe Machine Access during Maintenance |
|
Omron STI's new G9SX-LM Low-speed Safety Monitoring Unit allows an operator to access a machine for maintenance work while the machine is running at a safe, maximum set operating threshold of 10 Hz. Should the motor speed exceed the preset speed, the G9SX-LM will stop the machine immediately. An optional A4EG Enabling Grip Switch provides an additional layer of safety protection that, if pressed or released, will also immediately stop the machine.
The G9SX-LM is certified to all relevant North American and International safety standards and is engineered to deliver reliable standstill and low-speed monitoring operation for machine tools, printing presses and other applications. The system is suitable for use with servomotors.

Did you know that control reliability is mandated in U.S. and European standards for safety implemented circuits? These criteria can be met by using redundant safety-rated device outputs in conjunction with a safety relay.
Safety relays range in function from stop motion detection to 2 -hand palm button control, to dual channel input units with time-delayed outputs that provide conformity to ANSI B11.19, Section 5.1. All Omron STI safety relays carry the CE mark, and are UL and C-UL listed.
